An Interview With Peter Walsh…
It’s Organizing Month at Organize.com and who is more perfect to be my Celebrity Guest than Peter Walsh? Peter is a clutter expert and organizational consultant for TLC’s Clean Sweep, has made numerous appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, hosts his own radio show on Oprah and Friends XM 156 Radio is the author of “It’s All Too Much” and soon to be released “Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?”.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Peter Walsh. I must say that Peter is a charming Australian, who is witty, extremely bright and passionate about everything he does. His energy is both enlightening and contagious. You can hear the passion in his voice the minute you begin a conversation with him. He speaks with authority, enthusiasm and an expertise that convinces you immediately that he is on a mission to help others.
I was especially interested in Peter because we share the same theory that “organization is a lifestyle”. You cannot be successfully organized on a clutter diet. You must begin with the root of the problem, find the solution and work at it everyday. Peter and I also share a key component in our everyday lives…we spend most of our time organizing other people. Peter is truly and expert at helping people determine two things - “what you want from your space” and “the life you want to live”. You’ll find out how as you read on. I hope you will join me tomorrow for Part One of “My Interview With Peter Walsh”.
Take one step at a time!

Happy New Year, Mrs. Organize!
Thank you for setting up an interview with Peter Walsh as I am truly looking forward to learning more about how to get my life ORGANIZED.
I used to be organized, but somewhere in the last 15 years, chaos has taken over our home. I have a husband and teen-ager who add a lot to the clutter by not throwing their trash, etc. I blame our disorganization on our tiny house with little space for storage, but in reality I know that is only part of the problem.
I honestly don’t know HOW to organize anymore. I see storage containers in the store but I never buy them because I’m not sure which ones to buy for the storage I need.
Since I’ve found your blog, I’m hoping I can learn more about what to store and what to throw away and how to store what I’m keeping.
Thank you for offering suggestions through your blog. Donna in Oklahoma (but a native Southern Californian… I LOVE the beach!)

Hi Donna,
Happy New Year and thanks for writing.
You can be organized again! A house any size can be organized and feel good. Sometimes you just need to be creative. The first thing you need to do, is get rid of the clutter and all the things that you know you don’t need. There are simple storage solutions for every problem.
Make a promise to yourself today that you will try one project and stick to it. Choose something as easy as the junk drawer in the kitchen. I’ll bet you really do know what to keep and what to throw away in there. Get rid of those 20 pens (I know they’re in there!), discard the old keys, sort the batteries, paper clips and spare change. Set up some drawer organizers (plastic and mesh are great) that you purchase or make from the tops or bottoms of small gift boxes. Put back only the things you need and what can fit in the organizers. If you keep everything contained in an organizer, and don’t put things back that don’t belong in there, it will stay neat and organized.
Once you are successful with your first project, you are going to feel so good that you will be excited to work on the next room or project.
Happy Organizing!
Mrs. O
PS…I love the beach too!
