Organize.com on Good Morning America With Julie Morgenstern

Organize.com New Year, New You: Get Organized! Featured January 7th on Good Morning America, organization guru Julie Morgenstern showed the audience how to get the closet organized with solutions she chose from Organize.com!

Julie Morgenstern, the fairy godmother of organizing, performed more of her magic for new mom, Kristin O’Conner who was struggling with a cluttered closet. Julie transformed the O’Connor family closet from overwhelming to organized with her simple solutions and easy to follow steps to a calmer new you.

Julie’s advice? Start with what you will give away, throw away and what you will keep and belongs elsewhere. Have boxes handy and labeled to perform the task during an organizing session, says Julie.

Next:
- Group like items and separate long and short.
- Thin and like hangers will make your closet feel and look better.
- Never leave empty hangers in your closet. Keep a storage bin or basket close by for the extras.
- Use shelf-dividers and shelf boxes, available at Organize.com, to store T-shirts, sweaters and accessories.
- Shelf dividers are an inexpensive way to keep your stacks of sweaters separated, making it easy to collect things and put them in their proper places.

Shelf boxes function like drawers. You can pull them down, get what you need and put them back up. They’re a great way to store seasonal summer stuff in the back in winter, and then switch it up when summer rolls around again.

As an expert, Julie also recommends to assess how your closet door works for you. Trifold doors don’t let you hang things on the back of a closet door. Instead, opt for hinged or French-style doors that open outward and allow you to hang hooks and other organizational/storage tools on the back of them.

Use stick-on lights and a step-stool to help you see inside your closet.

I love the feeling of a newly organized area anywhere in my home. Reach for that sense of accomplishment and create a sense of calm for your family – one step at a time. You can do it.

Happy Organizing!
Mrs. O.
