Pouring It On

Summer’s not over yet and neither is summer entertaining. It can be fun, affordable and look great. I’m all for flavored water on my table and a signature cocktail for any party. If you’re looking for some fresh serving ideas, here are some of my favorites:

Yes – it’s clear! There are great choices in some very see through acrylic pitchers this summer that look as good as glass. Chill the morning of your event to avoid last minute work and serve.

Organizing Kid’s Homework Areas

Peter Walsh’s Tip of the Week is about organizing your kid’s homework areas. This couldn’t be more important for a stress-free and successful school year.

Peter’s Tip:
Making sure your kids have a great organized space to do their homework will absolutely help them be successful at school. If your kids are lucky enough to have a desk in their bedrooms then have them help you decide what kinds of ways they should set their study area up. A rack with bins for each type of school supply is a great start. Keeping items off of the desk helps give them more room for books and projects. Using colors also helps them remember where different things go when it’s time to clean up. Bins also help kids understand the concept behind having limits. When the bins are full, your child doesn’t need any more. Similarly, with smartly-labeled, colorful bins, things like scissors, tape, glue, pens, and pencils don’t go missing as easily! When everything has a place, no time is wasted hunting for things – and no money is wasted buying duplicates of things you know you already have!

So true and great tips, Peter. I also recommend to create a space for each child that reflects their personal style that they want to be in. While you are at it, implement a station to keep homework, shoes, boots, sweaters and coats. This can be in your entryway or mudroom. Add a key rack for yourself. You’ll save at least 10 minutes a day looking for keys and remove the family stress it creates.

One of my personal favorite wall organizers just in at Organize.com are our Crocodile Wall Organizers. Also check out the Cow and Moose!

Happy Organizing!

This Week’s Peter Walsh Clutter Challenge

Happy Friday! I hope you are all ready for a great weekend ahead.

I decided to start posting Peter’s Weekly Clutter Challenge on my blog. Why not share it with my readers – right?

CLUTTER CHALLENGE # 25 – IT’S THE SMALL THINGS!
Find one area of your house that is cluttered with small things. Go through the stuff & be ruthless as you decide what stays & what goes. Use a small bin – clear, decorative or just plain functional – that will work in your space. What items challenge you the most and how do you keep them under control?

Great advice, Peter. My favorite? Reisenthel covered boxes work for the top of the closet, a few grouped together on a shelf or in an office or even for cosmetics or jewelry. I also use them to store my winter scarves.

Happy Organizing!
